Why does my AOL say theres no Anti Virus when there is?

We have E.Trust Antivirus. AOL tells us there is no anti virus detected and my partner 'clicked here to solve this problem'.........we have lost our hard drive info 3 times because of this, and once the whole hard drive had to be replaced.

Why does my AOL say theres no Anti Virus when there is?

AOL just doesn't know about every anti-virus solution. Certainly, I would not trust AOL for your computer's security. In fact, I would REMOVE the AOL security features all together, and plug in what you pick. (obviously, AOL has let you down before)

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search %26 Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

You should have a firewall, if you have Windows XP with SP2, then use the Windows Firewall. Go to the Control Panel and check it. If you don't have SP2, then go to http://www.zonelabs.com and get the free version of Zone Alarm.

Keep your anti-virus updated and check it's status. Run scans weekly. You can only have one anti-virus program, and your computer health depends on it.

Learn how to keep your computer safe. DO NOT open emails that have no Subject that means something to you. Do not open emails from people or companies that you do not know. USE the REPORT SPAM button on every bogus email that you get. Visit websites that you know and trust. WHile there are thousands of BAD websites, there are many good websites that have everything that you need.
