Why do people create computer viruses? Is it so that their anti-virus will sell?

I don't mean to be cynical, but I'm just wondering. What's the point in even creating viruses? You're just messing with people and their lives. They could lose all the stuff they worked so hard for! And in a way, don't the anti-virus companies(the ones that made you pay) benefit from it?

I agree with you. I think that it is stupid too.

Some computer programmers work for companies that make virus so they can test it against that companies securities. Most viruses however are created for malicious purposes by low life hackers who have no life.
To get kicks out of screwing up peoples pcs.
I think people just do it for the fun of it, some people get kicks out of watching people suffer.

Belive it or not, people do it for respect and to show of their IT skills.

They also do it to get revenge on people they hate, or to steal personal information, such as bank details, addresses (email and house) and phone numbers, these, in turn, then can be sold to advertising companies that will send junk email to you, both in the post and email, they will also phone you up.
Most times it seems like it's either because someone wants to see how a bit of code works or ''to have fun''.
i knowi want to know why do even virus exist too
if you buy into conspiracy theories and such, you could argue that people do that to help the anti-virus compaines, or that they work for them.
