I received a donated computer, but it had Norton anti-virus installed on it and I don't have a password to turn it off on the computer. Is there a way to start the computer with Norton disabled so i can format the disk drive and install the new XP operating system on it (the old computer has Windows 2000 pro on it).
How do I remove/disable Norton anti-virus from a used computer I received so I can install a new copy of XP?hijackthis
Are you saying you don't have the password to boot up the computer? If thats the case you can't do that easily.

Hey u dont worry about norton antivirus at all, get a bootable Windows XP CD, Boot from it and u will get option to format the disk... no need to know any password of old installations, that is the best method, try this instead of uninstalling Norton
Since you want to install a new copy of XP, if it were me, I would reformat the hard drive to guarantee nothing is on it that will interfer with the new install of XP.
Have fun but be safe.
right click Norton anti-virus in the taksbar go to exit then go to the control panel click on add /remove
then click on nortons once in the list then click remove
